ABOUT US

What We Do

Outdoor Classroom Design creates spaces and places dedicated to education, designed to inspire learners and support teaching. Involving students, teachers and families in the process, our projects build community, establish identity and reinforce support for neighborhood schools. Based in Seattle, WA, we are particularly focused on working with young people, building custom design activities that support classroom learning and empower youth.

Experience

Outdoor Classroom Design has ten years experience working with public and private schools and community groups – giving power to student voices, and envisioning public spaces built to inspire visitors as lifelong learners.

Jason Medeiros
(and daughter Vivienne)
Principal Educational Activist

Innovative and proficient in outdoor and environmental education, classroom science instruction, group facilitation and landscape design, Jason brings a unique set of skills to every project. Jason Medeiros has twenty five years of experience implementing creative educational solutions and teaching science in diverse communities, working with organizations such as Rainier Scholars, IslandWood and the University of Washington. He currently specializes in the design of public spaces linked to school curriculum: harnessing the excitement and energy of student participation to foster learning and creative placemaking. His work at Delridge Wetland Park (Louisa Boren STEM K-8) and Brighton Science Park (Aki Kurose K-8) enhances science curriculum at schools and generates science awareness for the community at large. His involvement with projects at Highland Park Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary helped student voice catalyze powerful community support and generate nature based playground designs.

Jason holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington, and returns on a regular basis to lecture on outdoor spaces for learning. He is the parent of two daughters currently at Salmon Bay K-8 and the University of Washington.
