Maps and Surveys

Giving students voice first involves listening. It also involves giving students the tools and skills necessary to be taken seriously by adults in the community. Guiding students through mapping and site survey activities provides a powerful way for students to be heard, in a format easily understood by the community. Younger students work well in groups while older prefer the challenge of working independently. All benefit from the opportunity to share.

Students are experts on where they play…but sometimes need help reading a map.  Every class plays orientation games centered around a chalk drawn compass rose.
